What can I say? I loved the characters, loved the plot and even the murder mystery going on in the background. There are a few reasons I didn't give it 5 stars. First off, the ending fell flat for me. We have major UST threaded throughout the entire story, and at the end I expected fireworks, but instead they talked and we didn't even get a few sweet illicit touches. Hmm My fault I suppose because I didn't know if this was erotica or not. I guess some might consider it light erotica because he g [...]

A Tender Historical RomanceOriginally published in 2008 under the title “The Rat Catcher” (a nickname given to the policeman hero), the story takes place in New York City, 1884. This is a unique historical romance between two characters who are from different levels of society yet both are outsiders. If you are looking for your standard dose of ‘bodice ripping’ sex, it’s not here. But the story and the characters will more than hold your interest. Callie, a gentlewoman, is an educated [...]

I'm thinking of taking up smoking just so I have something to do after I read really good historical romances. And this, my friends, was a really good historical romance.Set just after my preferred era (but one I love none the less) it features a pairing I'm becoming more and more fond of. One member of the gentry and one working class schlub.I'm not sure why this clash of classes appeals to me more and more, but it does. Especially when written in a plausible way with outstanding characters.Cutt [...]

I thought the book was pretty good. It kept me interested throughout. The story was different, and I enjoyed reading how the characters would come together. It was difficult to picture some of the places; I kept forgetting the story took place in New York. Callie's naiveté was a little difficult to believe, but I do know that women often led very sheltered lives back then. I received a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
