Well since I enjoyed book 1 of this series Burning (Brotherhood of the Blade Trilogy #1) I grabbed this second book the day it came out and finally got around to reading it today. It has a bit of everything you usually want from a book, the hero (humble and heroic all at once) , the heroine (strong and soft all at once), the tragedy to motivate the characters and emotionally grab the reader and let us not forget the "big evil thing". Then you throw in some romance and poof, you got the great book [...]

This book takes Rand into the fortress of the Brotherhood of the Blade. He finds there is also a Sisterhood of the Scythe, comprised of the women vampire hunters who use a unique weapon fashioned into a piece of jewelry that becomes a scythe. He meets and teams up with Ambra, an ex-Olympic skier and mighty warrior. There are too many twists and turns in this book to list them all. However, there is a guest appearance by Samantha Moon, a good vampire who works with the Brotherhood. She comes to he [...]

This book picked up the story begun in Burning only minutes after that first book in the series ends. The novella length story then follows three plot lines, Gabby, Vlad and Rand’s relationship with Ambra. Also, the search for Rand’s daughter, Kristen, continues as an undercurrent to the three major events. This book felt like the typical middle book in a trilogy – basically plodding along, ending a few things begun earlier, advancing some others, starting some things anew. And yes, there i [...]

Sharp and well written Just as the word Afterglow has many definitions (and all of them fit this story), this book has a lot of levels. It is a little bit fantasy, a little bit science, a little bit romance and a whole lot of story. Building on the story line started in the first Brotherhood of the Blade book, this book takes the characters deeper. There are vampires, werewolves, and humans all working to bring down Vlad the Impaler from the Swiss Alps to Transylvania. You will enjoy the trip

I enjoyed this book much better than the original I guess having more action did it for me. I've got to say tho, Rand whines like a woman. Maybe not whines but he analyzes everything. I feel as though he is more feminine than he should be as a vampire Hunter.

This book has a lot of potential and I hope that it gets more plot building and character building added to the story because it could use a lot of fleshing out. It wasn't bad but it could use a lot of improvement.

This book is terrible. Not even sure I can finish it, and that's against my religion. The story lines are all over the place. There is no follow through on any of them. Just BAM , that scene is over. No depth of characters. I am not sure I have ever disliked a book more. No wonder it was free!

Intriguing and beautifully writtenGreat details and the story seemed to come alive to me. I was more than intrigued by the characters and flow of the story. I can't wait to read the next installment

    • Angel Ludwig says:

Interesting premiseIt rambles a bit and has a few repetitious spots, but is interesting. Paludan/Rain stuffs a bit more philosophy and introspection into this book than the first, especially for action-oriented characters, but not so much that it brings the book to a halt.

Great book! Can't wait for radiance!

This book was great. I could not put it down. The only thing I did not like was the cliff hanger at the end of the book. It definitely ensures that I buy the next book.

    • Kathy says:

As usual when it gets really really really good, you have to wait until the next book. Please hurry, I need to know what happened to Corbin.Great book

    • Kim Jackson says:

Interesting short story. Well written. I like the collaboration with J.R. Rain and the mentioning of his Samantha Moon in this story.

    • Samantha says:

Oh my, this is wonderful, I'm now on my way through book three!

    • Nick Wilson says:

Good story, fleshes out the characters created in the first part and has some nice action parts
