Immediately engaging, this book already had me from the beginning. I could hear the narrative as a voiceover in an indie film that becomes a cult classic. Levesque did all the hard work, letting the reader transcend the act of reading until it feels as if it's being read for you, performed for you, with his excellent, easy-to-read storytelling.I was already chuckling, already on board and ready to gush about it, but then something happened. Let me put it this way. This was already a friend that [...]

A straaaaange tale of hairdressing angst that successfully depicts that desperate, flailing, cringing, searching way in which some of us (well, actually, everyone I know) inhabits the workaday world.

I felt so many different feelings and emotions while I was reading this book! Let's see: love, hate, fear, horror, laughter, A LOT OF LAUGHTER, and ALOT of sadness too. Oh my gosh, it is so interesting and so expertly written! Daniel makes you feel like you are therehe brings you into Francis' life, like no other author has ever brought me. Daniel is an amazing writer, and I was actually upset when I finished the book! Can't wait for the next novel by Daniel Levesque! LOVED IT!

I was smitten with this Roman à clef right from the get-go: a funny-sad account of growing up in somewhat less than usual circumstances (among other things, the protagonist's family was part of a religious cult for a time), and stumbling into adulthood disheveled, freaked out, and utterly unprepared, winding up in an unsuitable profession (the hairdressing of the title), and trying somehow to keep it all together, often failing. Levesque, who has done the road tour thing with Sister Spit, is a [...]

This book is freaking hilarious, in a lovingly dark, spot-on way. Satire, sweetness, and vulnerability. It's the kind of book that makes me want to buy a copy for everyone I know (but I think I'll pare it down to those I know, love, and exchange favorite books with).

The writing reminds me on "Running with Scissors" and though parts of the book are quite captivating, it lacks something.metimes seems to all over the place. But still a good, quick read.
